Internet Grows Magazines—Huh?

I gotta hand it to the genuis behind this ad in the August issue of The New Yorker.

Among the claims, youth are buying more magazines thanks to the web and that 22% of new subs were purchased online. It makes you wonder what decade we’re living in, why printed magazines continue to suffer at the hands of new media, and that repurposed print content doesn’t work so well on a smartphone.

Call me a skeptic, but at best we’re seeing more streamlined methods of purchasing subscriptions—in whatever form—leaving to question, however, the relevance of their printed counterparts. Are today’s youth truly purchasing printed subs, or digital downloads and, if the latter, what form?

Comments anyone?
